Coaching

“Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force.  When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand.” –Karl A. Menniger

Our coaching approach is through the Gestalt methodology – an approach that is challenging to define but involves responding to the whole person and seeking to raise awareness rather than simply focusing on action.   Through a series of one-to-one sessions we work with you to fully explore the issues and challenges that you are facing.  The focus of our discussion may be obstacles at work, or in your career progression, or a challenge in your home life.  Together we identify your goals and consider steps you could take to move towards them.

‘Gestalt’ is a German term that can be defined as ‘shape’ ‘outline’ or ‘a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts’.  In the context of coaching, ‘Gestalt’ describes a way of working with your whole experience, and through this approach we often uncover connections that were not immediately obvious.  We identify the elements of your personal narrative that may be limiting your outlook and impeding progress.  A gestalt coach does not assume a level of expertise and we therefore do not provide advice or recommend actions.  You are the expert in your own experience.

Usually we would provide a series of four coaching sessions, each one of up to an hour in length.  However we are happy to arrange different durations or number of sessions.  Before each session you might find it helpful to consider what topic you would find most useful to discuss, but it is not necessary to come with an issue in mind.  A private and comfortable space is the only resource that is needed, and we can discuss together where would be most suitable.  Perhaps you have access to a small, quiet room in your workplace.
